Elegant Cottage Extension, Kildare
This project involved the transformation of a modest single-storey cottage into a generous, classically inspired family home. The brief called for a significant extension to the rear that would respect the charm of the original cottage while delivering a more formal and refined architectural language.
The new two-storey addition features steeply pitched roofs with elegant gables and finely detailed eaves, referencing the traditional forms of rural Irish architecture. The extension is arranged around a new orangery-style sunroom, defined by tall arched French doors and classical mouldings that introduce warmth and natural light to the heart of the home.
The original cottage now serves as guest accommodation and utility spaces, while the extension accommodates expansive living areas and bedrooms. The palette of crisp white render, natural slate, and heritage detailing ensures the new structure feels timeless yet contemporary. Careful attention was given to landscaping and boundaries, reinforcing the sense of privacy and arrival.
This is a project that quietly elevates traditional architecture through proportion, detail, and spatial generosity—creating a comfortable, characterful family home in a sensitive rural setting.
